COLOCCINI STILL CONFIDENT

Newcastle United defender Fabricio Coloccini has said that the club are still confident of finishing in the top four, which will provide them Champions League football after many seasons.

Newcastle last qualified for the Champions League while they were under the stewardship of the late Bobby Robson. Since then, they have been relegated to the Championship and have just been promoted back to the Premier league.

They were not expected to be in the top half of the table, but they have defied expectations to reach the lofty heights of the top four. However, the 4-0 defeat at the hands of Wigan during the weekend has seriously damaged their hopes of finishing ahead of Tottenham and Chelsea.

Yet, Newcastle defender and captain Fabricio Coloccini has said that the club are still confident ahead of the crucial match against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night. Newcastle will be making the trip to London after having just been beaten by Wigan.

This was their first defeat in the last six matches. Newcastle came into the match against Wigan having won the six matches prior to it, but looked totally out of sorts against Roberto Martinez’ men. After facing Chelsea, Newcastle will be up against the tough fixture in the form of Manchester City on Sunday.

“The Champions League is like a dream for us. We still have a chance to fight for it. We’re having a great season, so our confidence is still high. We know we have to get something at Chelsea. We know a Europa League place is in the bag, so we can push for a top-four finish. Wigan was a test for us and we were disappointing. Now we’ve three more tests,” Fabricio Coloccini said ahead of the meeting with Chelsea on Wednesday night.
