Fabricio Coloccini suffered a groin injury during a training session with his national side Argentina 2 weeks ago which has left him unable to play with Newcastle in their last matches.
His recovery was expected to be complete in Christmas although recent reports that have been airing are suggesting that the veteran defender might be able to get into the pitch sooner than what was initially believed.
Newcastle’s upcoming match is against their rivals Sunderland as they travel to the Stadium of Light on Sunday. The latest betting odds suggest it will be a close game, although Unibet have made Newcastle the slim favourites.
“Colo has had a really good week. We let him stay out in Argentina for another four or five days just to let the injury settle down and that’s been a good decision.
“He has worked with the national team there and come back in good stead.
“Fingers crossed with him, because it would be a great boost for us if he could come back. If not for this one, then for Manchester City or Chelsea (next Saturday).” The Newcastle Boss Alan Pardew stated.
Expectations are high for Newcastle United as they managed to hold their own against Liverpool in last week’s Premier League match even though they had to play without Coloccini, some even say they are favorites on taking on Sunderland and claiming all 3 points in the home turf of Sunderland, the Stadium of Light.
The 31 years old defender has been making his recovery in Argentina where it is believed that the rehabilitation is going so well, he has even participated in a few training drills with some of his teammates.
Now it’s just a matter of time and some fitness test before Coloccini can be officially announced as a starter for Newcastle’s upcoming match.
