Newcastle United might have to travel to Chelsea without their captain and one of the most important players Fabricio Coloccini.
Coloccini had last made an appearance for the Magpies in the match against West Bromwich Albion on the first day of the year. He caused some damage to his knees during that game and has been sidelined since then.
Newcastle has really suffered in his absence. They have played 5 matches after him getting ruled out because of injury and have managed to secure just 4 points with the help of 1 win and 1 draw. They have been defeated in 3 of those games and that too comprehensively.
It’s not only Coloccini’s skills that the Magpies are missing; they are missing his leadership qualities as well.
The Newcastle squad is looking completely down and out at the moment. Some motivation needs to come from somewhere for them and Coloccini’s return might bring that to the group, but, unfortunately, his injury has not healed up as fast as it should have. However, it is believed that he might be declared fit before the match against the Spurs which is going to be played next week.
The Newcastle boss Alan Pardew would be keen to have Coloccini back as soon as possible. This is a very critical phase in the season and if the Magpies get a few results in their favour in the next few weeks, they can still hope for a place in the top 4 at the end of the season.
Newcastle is presently at the 8th position in the Premier League table right behind the defending Champions Manchester United. They have won 11 out of their 24 matches till now and have got 37 points which is Just 10 less than what the no. 4 Liverpool has got.
