The captain of Newcastle United, Fabricio Coloccini, has disclosed that he was on the verge of leaving the club last month because of some personal issues, but, those issues are now sorted out and he will continue playing for Newcastle till the end of this season.
When asked whether he wanted to take a transfer during the mid season transfer window, Coloccini said, “Yes, I wanted to leave because of some personal problems. Those problems were not related to my wages. Those were about something else. But, all my problems have been solved now and I will carry on playing for Newcastle for the remaining of the season.”
“Returning to Argentina is still a possibility, but, I will decide about it at the end of the season. I don’t want to think about these things in the middle of the season.”
“Staying away from home is not easy. I have been doing this since the last 13 years, but, now, I want to return to Argentina. Let’s see what happens at the end of the season.”
The Argentinean club San Lorenzo had shown interest in Coloccini during the mid season transfer window. When asked about that, Coloccini said, “I have been a San Lorenzo fan since a long time. So, it’s nice that they wanted to have my services. As I said, I will give it a thought, but, after the completion of the ongoing season.”
Coloccini has been a part of the Newcastle squad since the last 4 and half years. He had signed for Newcastle in August 2008 after leaving Deportivo La Coruna. He has made 158 appearances for Newcastle United so far and has found the back of the net four times.
In the ongoing season, Coloccini has featured for Newcastle United in 22 matches.
